Candidate’s Story

The Journey to Clearwater

Born at Scarborough General Hospital in 1982, my family relocated to Saskatchewan at a young age. I’ve lived, worked and studied in communities across Canada.

Higher learning

I left home at 17 years of age to pursue an undergraduate degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, upon completion I was accepted into the University of New Brunswick Law school in Fredericton. At Law School I participated in and won the Harrison Shield Moot in my third year before graduating. In 2009 I relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan to finish my articling requirements and while there I obtained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Johnson Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy.

Professional Development

In 2011 I relocated from Saskatchewan to the Ottawa area, hoping to I learned new skillsets in communications and organizing. For 8 years I worked at the Broadbent Institute, an at the time brand new progressive policy think tank. I represented Institute staff in our first collective agreement in 2018.

Activism and Organizing

I spent my time out east organizing campaigns that sometimes took me across the country. I worked on by-election campaigns in New Brunswick and Kingston Ontario, and I spent a year living across the river in Quebec. The Broadbent Institute would also support a number of labour actions across the country giving me insight into working conditions and how to improve them.

Advocating for British Columbia

In January of 2021 I accepted a job offer with the Municipal government of Clearwater, BC. I learned about local government by taking the minutes for Council for 2 years and also serving as the Chief Election Officer in the 2022 Municipal Election. Later I took a 12 month contract with the Centre For Family Equity as they built a new website and launched the #TransitforTeens campaign which we eventually took to a meeting with the Premier.

Laying Down Roots

Five years ago my family relocated to Clearwater, British Columbia, and we have not looked back since. Today I work from home remotely and am looking for a way to better serve my community.
