Election day is October 17, 2026
The next general local elections will be held on October 17, 2026, which will include the election of six (6) municipal councillors and mayor within the District of Clearwater. Candidates elected to the office of Mayor and Council will be expected to serve a full four year term.
Questions about voting in Clearwater
Our local government, the District of Clearwater, is responsible for running its own local elections, including voting, counting, reporting results, and accepting candidate nominations. Please contact the the Chief Election Officer about any concerns about the upcoming municipal election.
Am I eligible to vote in Clearwater?
You are eligible to vote in local elections as a resident elector when you:
* are 18 years of age or older when you register to vote or will be 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
* are a Canadian citizen;
* have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before you register to vote;
* are a resident of the District of Clearwater on the day you register to vote; and,
* are not disqualified under the Local Government Act, any other enactment from voting in local
elections or be otherwise disqualified by law.
You are eligible to vote as a non-resident property elector when you:
* are 18 years of age or older when you register to vote or will be 18 years of age or older on general voting day;
* are a Canadian citizen;
* have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before you register to vote;
* are the registered owner of real property in the District of CLearwater for at least 30 days immediately before you register to vote; and,
* are not disqualified under the Local Government Act, any other enactment from voting in local
elections or be otherwise disqualified by law.
Do I need identification in order to vote?
You must provide two separate pieces of identification (the BC Services Card when combined with a Driver’s
Licence is considered one piece of identification) that proves who you are and where you live – or make
a solemn declaration about where you live, in order to vote.
Can I vote before general voting day?
Yes. One advance voting opportunity will be held at the Dutch Lake Community Centre on October 7, 2026.
